Today, the Yemeni people remember with pain the terrorist bombing that occurred thirteen years ago and targeted the Presidential Compound's Mosque on the first Friday of the month of Rajab in the year 1432 (Islamic calendar).

The bombing caused the death and injury of dozens of people, including the late President Ali Abdullah Saleh, who was badly hurt, and a number of senior Yemeni state officials.

The UN Security Council then condemned the bombing of the Presidential Compound's Mosque and considered it an international terrorist crime, while observers believed that bombing the mosque revealed the tendency of some forces to create chaos  and panic in the country.

One observer described the bombing as the beginning of destructing the Yemeni state, because it did not only target President Ali Abdullah Saleh only, but rather targeted the symbolism of the state and its leaders, by planning the location and timing of the crime, and by helping the accused to run away from their prison to escape justice.
