Grundberg in Oman again to push for detainees release and peace

The UN Special Envoy for Yemen Hans Grundberg visited Oman again to help the release of all detained UN, international and national non-governmental organizations, civil society, and diplomatic missions staff  held by Houthi rebels since June 2021.

A statement by Grunderg office said that he met in Muscat senior Omani officials and a representative of the Houthi rebels and discussed with them the recent arbitrary detention of additional United Nations personnel adding to the numerous others already held by the Houthi rebels.  

The Special Envoy office added that he reiterated the firm stance of the UN Secretary-General, strongly condemning these detentions and calling for the immediate and unconditional release of all detained UN staff, along with personnel from international and national non-governmental organizations, civil society, and diplomatic missions held since June 2024, as well as those held since 2021 and 2023.

According to the the Special Envoy office, he also discussed the importance of continued regional de-escalation as a way to improve possibilities to return Yemen to a path towards sustainable peace, concluding that the Special Envoy remains committed to working with all Yemeni, regional and international stakeholders to ensure progress toward a peaceful and inclusive resolution to the conflict in Yemen.
