Saudi Arabia’s Project Masam cleared a total of 481,240 mines in Yemen since its inception in 2018, according to a recent report by the project.
The demining operations took place in the governorates of Marib, Aden, Jouf, Shabwa, Taiz, Hodeidah, Lahij, Sanaa, Al-Bayda, Al-Dhale and Saada.
Last week Masam’s field staff removed 714 explosive devices from various regions of Yemen including 30 anti-tank mines and 684 unexploded ordinance, according to the report.
The report mentioned that those explosives were planted indiscriminately and posed a threat to civilians, including children, women and the elderly., so teams are tasked with clearing villages, roads and schools to facilitate safe movement for civilians and the delivery of humanitarian aid.
In addition to clearing mines the initiative trains local de mining engineers, provides them with modern equipment and offers support to Yemenis injured by the devices.
