An investigation by the Coalition’s Joint Incidents Assessment Team (JIAT) found that a number of airstrikes carried out by the Coalition to Restore Legitimacy in in various regions of Yemen during recent years did not target civilian sites including a hospital and farm as claimed, a spokesman of JIAT stated.
The spokesman added that It was claimed by the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights that an airstrike by coalition on Jan. 13, 2022 partially damaged the emergency department and inpatient clinics of a hospital in the Al-Sawad area, Amran Governorate.
But JIAT reviewed relevant documentation and found that a military camp, known as Al-Sawad camp, was located near a Hospital and coalition forces conducted a targeted airstrike on military target within the camp, based on intelligence regarding Houthi rebels activities, but did not target the hospital.
JIAT also found no record of airstrikes in Al-Watadah, Khawlan Directorate in Sanaa Governorate, on March 3, 2021, as alleged, nor in the days surrounding it.
Other reports indicated that a missile fell near a house in Al-Malaheet village, Directorate of Sa'ada, on Feb. 23, 2020 but JIAT investigated and found no evidence that coalition forces had conducted missile strikes in that area on that date.
JIAT also investigated and found no evidence of air missions conducted On June 4, 2015 as alleged regarding an airstrike targeting public building in Zinjibar, Abyan governorate.
JIAT spokesperson concluded that through these investigations, JIAT aims to clarify allegations and uphold accountability and transparency.
