Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) in Yemen has launched a new project to improve livelihoods and support the standard of living for 4,060 beneficiaries from the poorest families in Sana’a, Aden, Taiz, Dhale, Hadhramaut, ‘Amran, and Al-Hudaydah, at a total cost of $488,000.

Under the project’s program, the breadwinners of 580 families receive training in income-generating craft and vocational skills. To empower and encourage the beneficiaries to engage in production and business activities, they are provided with the necessary tools and resources to work in sewing, carpentry, smartphone maintenance, fishing, resin art, and livestock breeding.

Ahmed Hassan Sharaji, head of QRCS’s office in Yemen, said “Over the past two years, QRCS had already implemented two similar projects, for the benefit of 1,279 families, at a cost of $694,944,”

According to World Bank and UNDP reports for 2024, more than 80% of the population live below the poverty line, and many of them rely on humanitarian assistance to meet their basic needs, such as food, water, and health care.
