Shabwah security forces have apprehended a Houthi cell consisting of 13 individuals and intercepted a truck laden with weapons, explosives, and various munitions in a significant security operation in the Shabwah governorate. The operation uncovered a shipment of arms that had been smuggled via sea to the coast of Radhum district, intended for the Houthi militia. The Governor of Shabwah and head of the Security Committee, Awad Mohammed bin Al-Wazir, lauded the security achievement, commending the high level of vigilance, competence, and professionalism demonstrated by the Rapid Intervention Forces in identifying the cell, tracking its movements, and thwarting the smuggling plot. He emphasized the critical importance of sustained security efforts to counter threats targeting the governorate's security and stability. During a briefing attended by the Commander of Shabwah Defense Forces, Major General Ali Al-Khidr, Governor bin Al-Wazir received a report from the Commander of the Rapid Intervention Forces, Colonel Khamis Hussein Mohammed. The report detailed the security operation, which followed meticulous intelligence gathering, surveillance, and monitoring, in coordination with relevant security agencies. The operation resulted in the arrest of the cell members and the seizure of the arms-laden truck, which included sniper rifles, ammunition, highly destructive explosive devices, and assorted projectiles. Initial investigations revealed that the shipment of weapons and explosives was transported by a sea vessel before being received by the cell members on the coast of Radhum district. The arms were destined for the Houthi militia as part of their illicit smuggling and supply operations. Security and investigative procedures are ongoing to fully ascertain the circumstances of the operation and identify all involved parties and their connections. Governor bin Al-Wazir expressed his appreciation and pride in this accomplishment, praising the bravery of the Rapid Intervention Forces personnel and their leadership for their vigilance and professionalism in tracking suspicious activities and foiling arms and explosives smuggling attempts. He noted that the operation underscores the forces' readiness, capability, and effectiveness in confronting security risks and bolstering stability within the governorate. The governor highlighted the increased significance of this success, occurring just days after Rapid Intervention Forces personnel were targeted by ballistic missiles launched by the Houthi militia, which resulted in 77 fatalities and 195 injuries. He stated that the forces' continued commitment to their duties and their security successes, despite these grave losses, exemplifies their resilience, steadfastness, and determination to fulfill their national and security obligations. The governor stressed the necessity of enhancing the readiness, vigilance, and security awareness among all security and military units. He also called for intensified monitoring and inspection at land and sea entry points and improved coordination and information exchange among specialized agencies to thwart smuggling and infiltration attempts, pursue involved networks and individuals, and safeguard Shabwah's security, stability, and the safety of its citizens. For his part, Colonel Khamis Hussein Mohammed, Commander of the Rapid Intervention Forces, expressed his gratitude for Governor bin Al-Wazir's attention and continuous support for the security and military forces, and his commitment to enhancing their readiness and capabilities.
