Egypt’s Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty met on Tuesday with Hans Grundberg, the United Nations Secretary-General’s Special Envoy for Yemen, as part of Egypt’s sustained diplomatic engagement aimed at supporting de-escalation and advancing a comprehensive political settlement to the protracted Yemeni crisis.

Foreign Ministry spokesperson said the meeting, held in Cairo, came within the framework of ongoing consultations and coordination on developments in Yemen and international efforts to revive a UN-led political process to end the conflict. He added that Minister Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt’s firm position in support of the unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of the Republic of Yemen, stressing the importance of preserving national state institutions to protect the Yemeni people’s resources and prevent further deterioration of security and stability.

Abdelatty underscored the need to intensify efforts to consolidate the current calm, reduce escalation, and create a conducive environment for resuming the political process.

He stressed that any settlement must be based on inclusive Yemeni-Yemeni dialogue leading to a comprehensive agreement that meets the aspirations of the Yemeni people for security, stability, and development, and brings an end to their prolonged humanitarian suffering.

For his part, Grundberg briefed Abdelatty on the latest developments in his mediation efforts and contacts with the various parties, expressing appreciation for Egypt’s role in supporting de-escalation.

He also voiced his keenness to continue close coordination with Egypt, describing it as a central regional actor in efforts to promote security and stability across the region.
